England seniors international Kevin Firth made the semi-finals of the first event in the EASB Seniors Tour in Preston at the weekend.
He cruised through the group stages, beating current England seniors champion Steve Judd 3-1 and Chris Sutton and Jeff Robinson 3-0 – with a particularly impressive final frame against Robinson, where Firth made a 60 break and a clearance of 81.
Qualifying as No 1 seed, Firth beat Sutton again in their quarter-final tie, this time 3-1, before taking on Judd once more.
Despite going 2-0 down, Firth fought back to 2-2 but Judd held firm and took the final frame, followed by a 3-1 victory against James Gillespie in the final.
Firth was also in top form earlier this week for Undercliffe Cricket Club in the Dudley Hill Games League, where he recorded a superb 129 clearance at Eccleshill WMC against Eric Poynton.
Bradford No 2 took on Barnsley No 1 in the Yorkshire Inter District League at Manningham Ward, with honours shared in the Division Two snooker match.
Anthony Green was on the wrong end of both frames as Shaun Wilkes put Barnsley 2-0 up. Captain Hanif Rafiq drew the sides level with two solid frame victories against Tony Tasker, although the second of their frames was settled on the black.
Boover Singh then edged the home side in front, before opponent Paul Skidmore snatched the final frame of the night on the black, after needing a snooker on the yellow.
Bradford No 2 travel to Barnsley No 3 this weekend.
Bradford champion Gareth Green and Bradford No 1 player Lee Atkinson are both in action at Cue Gardens on Sunday (10am) in the final stages of the Yorkshire Snooker Handicap.
Green takes on Leeds’ Thomas Wealthy while Atkinson faces defending champion Daniel Womersley from Castleford.
The competition will be played to a conclusion, with other quarter-final matches seeing Shaun Wilkes against Ashley Hugill and Lee Brooks taking on Lee Roper.
Next Thursday sees the start of the Heys Trophy, with preliminary round matches taking centre stage.
East Bowling Unity B play host to Laisterdyke Cricket Club, while Buttershaw Lane WMC are at home to Lifeline Leisure.
The second legs of these matches will take place the following Thursday, November 17.
All other teams have a bye to the first-round proper.
