Otley cyclist Lizzie Armistead made up for her disappointment at finishing seventh in the women’s world championship road race by winning the women’s point race and women’s sprint at the National Track Championships in Manchester.

In the points race, she finished on 58 points, with Laura Trott second on 50 and Jo Rowsell taking the final podium place with 36.

The Otley ace then added gold in the scratch race on Saturday night with a trademark finishing sprint.

The previous week, a crash one kilometre from the end of the three-hour world championship road race cost Britain’s cycling team the chance to propel Armitstead to the finish.

Armitstead was inconsolable afterwards but, a week later, and it was all smiles from the 22-year-old former track world champion.
