KL TACKLE: The open match series on the River Aire is due to start on Sunday. This will be a series of ten matches at Kildwick. There is a £50 prize for the biggest barbel caught during the series and a golden peg. The draw is at Kildwick Bridge at 8.45am, with fishing from 10am-3pm. KL regular Jodie Richardson landed a personal best this week out of Coppice Pond, a mirror carp weighing 24lb 2oz which was witnessed and photographed. He snared the impressive fish using white choc action boilies. Coppice continues to fish well with the warm weather we are currently experiencing.
BRADFORD PALS AC: With the lake fully pegged out for two matches and the water level down by two feet, it was always going to be difficult in Sunday’s match at Lindholme (Loco Lake), so well done to those who framed. Results: 1 Tony Webb 69lb 2oz (pellet waggler), 2 Dave Riley 40lb 8oz, 3 Mick Stoney 24lb 2oz (caught with a reel with no handle). Our next match is on Sunday, October 9 at Marshlands. Call Andy Clough on 07810-185862 to book on if you have not already done so. Marshlands Fishery is off the first exit after you go over the Humber Bridge. The draw will be at 9am and there is no cafe or tackle shop on site. There are limited spaces available for new members for 2013. Call Andy for a prospective membership form. LISTERHILLS AA: Result of officials’ match on the canal: 1 E Harrison 1lb 7oz, 2 G Reeday 9½oz, 3 D Jackson 2¼oz. The draw for Sunday’s open match at Rodley is at 9am by the bridge. Pilley’s Dam is still fishing quite well for carp, with fish to over 20lb. When using two rods, a second rod permit must be obtained. From now until the end of the year, these cost only £1. There was a good attendance for the annual Ian Smith Memorial open match at Rodley, the proceeds of which were donated to heart and cancer charities. The winner was M Patton with 2lb 13oz. Other results: 2 J Needham 2lb 9oz, 3 R Thorne 2lb ½oz, 4 G Kitchen 1lb 11oz, 5 T Melling 1lb 10oz, 6 E Harrison 1lb 7oz. Despite the low weights, all competitors caught fish.
BRADFORD No1 AA: Round four of the Calder League was won by Tony Peel with 15lb 13oz. Nick Chaffer finished second with 14lb 9oz and Tom Gausden came third with 14lb. Mirfield were the winning team. The next round is on Sunday, October 9. Cowthorpe is closed this Sunday for the final members’ match of the year. Tickets are still available from the match secretary. Knotford is worth a visit for carp and tench this weekend. Raskelf is still producing good nets of fish. Members are once again reminded to ensure that gates are closed at all times. River levels should be low this weekend so should be worth a visit, especially Nun Monkton and Thornton Bridge.
BRADFORD CITY AA: The River Ure at Lower Dunsforth is producing quality nets of roach, perch, gudgeon and chubletts. Bream to 6lb and barbel to 7lb are also now starting to show. Result of latest open match from Lower Dunsforth: 1 S Fox (Bradford City) 7lb 11oz (barbel 6lb plus roach and perch), 2 D Robson (Tackle Box Kippax) 1lb 10oz (roach and perch), 3 A Miller (Tackle Box Kippax) 14oz (roach and perch). WASHBURN VALLEY: The heaviest fish caught during the week was 8lb by Kevin Dorman using pheasant tailed nymph. Fewston & Swinsty: Big fish are now feeding prolifically in the margins – ready for winter! Dawson’s olive and nymphs, buzzers and muddler minnow are tempting fish. Thruscross: Wild browns are giving the purist angler good sport on small nymphs. Catch details (week ending September 25) – Day ticket: Fewston 27, Swinsty 6, Thruscross (catch & return) 2; total fish caught: Fewston 190, Swinsty 20, Thruscross 4; average per rod: Fewston 7.0, Swinsty 3.3, Thruscross 2.0.
BINGLEY AC: Sunday’s match is on the River Aire at Steeton, drawing 9am at Steeton bridge. Call A Greenwood on 07971-428678 for details. There will be a committee meeting on Tuesday (8pm). The annual meeting will be held at Ryshworth Social Club on Tuesday, November 8 (8pm), with a pie and pea supper. All club members are welcome. Any proposals for rule changes need to with the club secretary in writing by Saturday, October 15. A vacancy for club secretary will become available at this meeting.
Bierley AC: The first pond has been enhanced by the installation of five bivvy platforms. Thanks to the council for materials supplied and also the members who installed them. ‘Captain Mainwaring’ Kels’ third 24-hour carp match was over-subscribed. The winner was Bill Hayley (19lb 2oz), with Neil Querns (11lb 2oz) second. Proceeds were again denoted to charity. All ponds are fishing well.
