Nadeem Siddique reckons it is Junior Witter's destiny to be crowned world champion on Friday.
Witter fights American DeMarcus Corley for the vacant WBC light-welterweight title at London's Alexandra Palace.
And Siddique believes the outcome is already a foregone conclusion, saying: "This is Witter's time.
"It doesn't matter who is in the other corner because nobody is going to stop him winning that belt.
"Junior has been waiting for such a long time to show that he is the best in the world. He's never had the chance to prove that until now.
"I almost feel sorry for Corley because he doesn't know what's going to hit him in there.
"I thought it was going to be a really close fight, with Witter winning on points, but I've changed my opinion now - Junior's going to smash him to bits."
Siddique has known Witter since they were both growing up in Girlington and he has noticed a steely streak in his close pal in the build-up to the biggest night of his career.
"Watching Junior in the gym is just awesome - his sparring has been electric and he's hitting harder than ever," said Siddique.
"It's scary stood outside the ring watching, let alone being on the end of some of those bombs.
"Corley is going to get the shock of his life on Friday and I can't see it going further than six rounds.
"People forget how long he has been in the business. Junior's been a professional for nearly ten years and he was an amateur for ten before that. He has worked so hard and so long for this opportunity and there's no way he'll let it slip.
"I know Junior better than most, since I was about ten. We went to the same schools, the same amateur gyms, the same professional one - we've even lived in the same house.
"But you can see a difference in him now and that is frightening. He's in the zone and his focus is unbelievable.
"This is the big one, everyone is watching and he is going in there to prove he is the man."
Corley has fought some of the biggest names in the division - including Floyd Mayweather Junior, Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah, who inflicted Witter's only pro defeat six years ago.
It is an impressive list of opponents but that cuts no ice with Siddique.
"People say he has boxed good fighters but Junior Witter is totally different," he said.
"Nobody fights in his style and it's going to be a new experience for Corley - and a painful one.
"There is nobody who deserves to be world champion more than Junior. He should have had this big fight a few years ago.
"But now it is here and he will show everyone what we already know - he is the best light-welterweight in the world."
