Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club will again be hosting three weeks of top-class international action in July, backed by JM Glendinning Ltd, Insurance Brokers and Independent Financial Advisers’ Company.

The Festival of Tennis kicks off with the $10,000 JM Glendinning Group International Men’s Tournament, which is part of the AEGON Pro Series, from July 3-9.

Following that is the AEGON Summer County Cup from July 17-19, and the bonanza is completed on July 23-30 by the JM Glendinning Group Ilkley Open, which is part of the AEGON British Tour.

Players from over 30 countries will be aiming for world-ranking points in the international event, which is also known as the Great Britain F9 Futures, and past competitors include Grand Slam runner-up Andy Murray and former Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo.

Paul Glendinning, managing director of JMG, said: “Many of our 40 staff are involved with sports, and this is a real chance to support both the vibrant club and guest players who battle it out on the courts to get the essential world-ranking points.

“It provides real excitement during the summer.”

Andy Holder, director of JM Glendinning (Life & Pensions) Ltd, said: “We are delighted to sponsor this event for the fourth year running.

“The standard of play and skill exhibited is always extremely high and we look forward to supporting our international visitors.”

JMG also sponsored, for the third straight year, the annual wheelchair tennis event at the club earlier this month.

This Pro Series tournament attracts top players – the entry was double that of last year – and this year’s winner, Keith Thom from Scotland, was runner-up in 2010.

Dalbeattie Tennis Club member Thom lost a leg through illness in 2007, and was helped by the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust, which is now in its 13th year. After an exciting second set, he beat Glenn Gent 6-0, 7-6 in the final.

Ilkley player Tony Jeffers was so inspired from watching last year’s tournament that he took up the sport and, with assistance from the Dan Maskell Trust, he now competes regularly.

All events are free to watch in July and play starts from 11am each day, with the men’s singles final starting at 1pm on Saturday, July 9.
