Young swimmer Myles Stirk put in a glittering performance to win five gold medals for the City Development Squad at the annual Sport Aid Meet in Leeds.
The North East Region champion claimed first place in the 50m, 200m and 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
Another squad member, fellow 11-year-old James Lund, was one behind with four golds, won in the 50m, 100m and 200m breastroke and the 400m medley, while he also earned bronze in the 200m medley and had five further final placings, two of which set new north east region qualifying times.
Stirk’s sister Isabel, 14, got silver in the 50m freestyle, while Ryan Allen also achieved silver in the 11 years’ 100m backstroke. His time of 1.22.50 was a new north east region qualifying record, as was his time of 2.52.30 in the 200m event, which placed him fourth.
Eva Chapman finished third in the 200m and 400m 11 years’ freestyle, with both swims setting new north east record times.
Azura Cairns Poole hit the pads in third place in the 50m and 100m butterfly and had two further placings, while James Blaby won bronze in the 50m and 200m butterfly, the latter a north east record.
