Dougie Lampkin’s bid to win the 2011 Scottish Six Days Trial and to achieve a record-breaking sixth victory at the world famous event came to a bitter end.
Multi FIM world champion Lampkin made a strong start to the week and enjoyed a share of the lead on the first day, alongside his Gas Gas team-mate Michael Brown.
He led again at the halfway stage, only to crash heavily on Thursday, losing him vital points and leaving him with ankle ligament damage.
The Silsden ace defied medical advice and the pain barrier to continue but, barely able to walk, he paid the price for his brave efforts and was unable to compete on the final day.
“I came here this week with only one thing in mind and I have failed to achieve it, so I am totally gutted,” said Lampkin.
