After the recent success of the Bradford Dragons men’s team, a women’s team is being encouraged to follow in their footsteps.
Thanks to a £10,000 grant from Sport England’s Small Grants Programme, the Dragons are hoping to form a female team by hosting training sessions for anyone interested in taking up the sport.
The Dragons’ men’s team recently won the English Basketball League Division Two title, while coach Chris Mellor was named as coach of the year.
It is now hoped that such success can be replicated by under-13, under-15 and senior women’s teams ahead of the 2011/12 season, with aspirations of expanding to England Basketball’s junior and senior national leagues in the 2012/13 season.
The summer workout sessions for females aged 14 and over are being held on Thursday evenings between 8pm and 9.30pm at Bradford College Sports Hall until September. Sessions cost £3 or £1 for Bradford College and university students, with the first session free when bringing a copy of this article.
