SALTAIRE AA: Once again the lock has been damaged beyond usability. It should be set away from the actual code before locking. Some occasional good fish are being caught at Tong Park. A 27lb carp was recently brought to the net during a lunchtime half-hour session and a 9lb tench has also been reported. A small number of carp bodies between 14lb and 4lb have been removed from the bank in the last month. Prime suspects are either a mink or an otter. A significant quantity of weed was removed from the east outlet on Monday. An angler has been caught fishing without having bought his yearbook and consequently had to buy it at the bankside. Yearbooks are available at all local tackle shops, ticket agents at both the Coach Road and Station Road post offices in Baildon, the pet food stall at the indoor market in Shipley, the Foresters Arms in Grassington or from the ticket and licence secretary via 07815-092966 or online on the website. There is a committee meeting on Monday, despite it being the May Day bank holiday.
BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC: Our trip to Whitby on Sunday was great. Fishing 27 miles off shore at a mark called ‘the wall’, fish were caught steadily all day. Top honours went to Graham Stansfield, who caught 90lb of fish – including five cod, with the biggest topping 9lb, along with three ling and five pouting. Graham always starts the day off by catching his favourite pouting and this trip was no exception. Second was Martin Catley with 56lb – including the biggest fish of the day, a 10lb cod – and third place went to David Taylor with 52lb, which included two ling of 9lb each. A mention must also go to Ernie Day, who caught a good pollock of 5lb. Our next trip is also to Whitby on Sunday, May 15, again aboard Richard Ward’s boat ‘Shy Torque 2000’. Anyone wishing to go should call Brian on 07901-717615 to book a place. Our next general meeting is at the New Inn, East Bierley, on Tuesday, May 17 (8pm). New members are welcome.
