Ben Hemingway tuned up nicely for the Highlands with his second victory in seven days on the brand new Beta Factory 300 at bone dry Cockhill Mines at the Yeadon-Guiseley MC Stelvio Trophy Trial on Sunday.

Two stream sections tested 73 starters on Sunday morning.

The sun really hit the disused lead mine venue at Greenhow which acted as a 70 degree suntrap for riders and observers who toiled through 14 sections courtesy of Clerk of Course Andy Howe.

The larger than life Y-G character plotted some sections routes where the marker flags moved as rider got near them. They did not shift at all but plotting sections straight into the sun did deter some riders, mainly because they just could not see the flags.

Guiseley novice rider Sam Jennings opened his account early, on the rocky climb at the first section and on the first lap. He missed a blue flag but about 20 others missed the same flag. All three subs were dry and grippy so losses were few.

The hillclimb collected a few marks from all classes. Some top riders were notables, along with Danielle Whitham, but the Silsden girl was up with all the class riders - they all stopped on lap one!

Keighley clubman Phillip Armstrong won the keenly contested clubman class from Crosshills locksmith Robert Cockshott and Stewart Oughton, the latter currently the most respected clubman in the Yorkshire Centre.

There was also a blast from the past competing, one James Snowden, on a two week home visit to Crosshills from Auckland, NZ.

Youngster Sam Johnson worked wonders on his Acklam Beta to ride, as the other nine youngsters did, the full clubman course.

Predictably Sam took Class C from talented Kieran Child and first timer Beth Waite. The Hurworth girl has forsaken the small wheels classes.

Thomas Housecroft put one over Will Peacock in Class B while Thornton in Craven 17-year-old trainee farmer Edward Berry ran off with Class A.

Mike Hinch was expecting a strong turn-out of small wheelers but only five arrived, and no Class E boys at all. Jacob Snowden, Edward Earle and Elliott Payne delivered the right results.

Grassington motor engineer John Maxfield and Fellbeck farmer Norman Shepherd were also class winners in the ten-section contest at the head of Littondale.
