Haworth’s Chloe Hurd headed a City of Leeds clean sweep yesterday in the three-metre springboard final at the British Gas National Diving Cup in Southend.
Clubmates Alicia Blagg and Hannah Starling completed the West Yorkshire club’s 1-2-3.
Blagg suffered from a slightly disappointing preliminary but put that behind her to ensure she had a clear head for the final.
She was in the lead from the first dive but dropped her reverse 2½ somersaults piked, which allowed Hurd to overtake her.
Hurd performed a series of steady dives and took her victory with a score of 283.50 to add to the gold she won in the three-metre synchro. Blagg took the silver in 278.55 and Starling the bronze with 262.90.
City of Leeds also took all the podium places in the women’s one-metre springboard, with Starling claiming her first national title.
Blagg was in the lead after the second round of dives but 14-year-old Starling kept her focus and secured some strong scores to move into the lead. Starling won gold with 246.65, Blagg getting 242.80 and Hurd 236.50.
Cross Roads’ Jenny Cowen was third in the ten-metre platform with 290.85 points.
Hurd and Blagg won the three-metre synchro with 283.92.
