Chris Young (Wheelbase) again showed stamina was a virtue in the sixth and final round of the National Trophy Cyclo-Cross Series at Rutland Water.
The Keighley rider worked his way up the field to clinch second place in the over-40s veteran race and secure the overall series runners-up prize.
With the wind blowing strongly, barriers had to be tied down but temperatures were mild.
Darren Atkins (Team Jewson) cruised to victory and a series win, with Phil Roach (Rugby Velo) just pipping Dan Cook (Planet X) for third.
Bradford’s Jonathan Wat-son (Charge Bike) finished seventh, closely followed by Oxenhope’s Matt Denby (Zepnat.com) in eighth and Chris’s brother Mike Young (Pedalsport CC) in ninth. Denby held on to fourth place in the overall series, with Watson eighth and Mike Young 15th.
Oakworth’s Joe Moses (Paul Milnes RT/Bradford Olympic RC) finished tenth in the juniors’ race to secure him sixth place in the series.
Bingley’s Robert Watson (Paul Milnes RT/Bradford Olympic RC) was seventh in the under-23 race, dropping him to fourth in the standings. He held on to 18th place in the overall men’s rankings, however, while Keighley’s Paul Young (Wheelbase) finished over a lap down but scored enough points to bag sixth overall in the under-23s.
In the elite category, Wilsden’s Tim Baldwin (Paul Milnes) finished 28th and dropped to tenth in the overall series.
Former Bingley resident Rob Jebb (Wheelbase) took ninth in the elite event and held on to his fourth overall in the series.
