Keighley AC: The Environment Agency stocked 500 barbel last Friday in the river at Kildwick. This is the fourth consecutive year they have been stocked and they should start to figure more in catches this coming summer. Roberts Pond has also been stocked with 200 six-to-eight-inch mirror and common carp. At our recent AGM, the most notable item was that no pike at all are to be removed from KAC waters. It was felt that this would make it clearer for tackle shop staff to explain to anglers who are asking what and how many fish they can take. It would also be easier to enforce and, of course, conserve stocks. We have had reports from anglers David Fry and Pete Hague who fished at Kildwick and each had ten grayling. KAC are at half price until the end of the coarse season and there will be no price rise for the 2011/12 season.
SALTAIRE AA: The Environment Agency have stocked 500 barbel into the Hirst Wood length of the river. Yearbooks will be available in tackle shops in the new year. Anglers may fish, if they wish, with 2010 yearbooks until January 15. Last Sunday’s canal match was abandoned as only three people showed up. Matches planned for Boxing Day have been cancelled. The canal is heavily iced and the river has surface ice – particularly on the slow-moving, wind-exposed stretches – especially near Baildon Bridge. Tong Park is heavily frozen. There is a twitter account (@saltaireangling) and a blog (saltaireangling.wordpress.com).
BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC: The Christmas meeting and giant raffle was well attended and a good night was had by all. Compliments to the landlord for putting on a great buffet. Our eyes and ears at Whitby have reported that, given the very cold weather, the sea in the harbour has frozen over. But I am sure this is only a temporary setback to the fishing. There is an abundance of cod inshore and they are absolutely stuffed full of sand-eels, so prospects look good for the coming weeks. Our next trip is to Whitby on Sunday, January 23. Anyone wishing to go should call Dave on 07711-987833 to book a place.
BRADFORD No 1 AA: The 2011 yearbooks are now available from the usual tackle shops, online at www.bradfordno1.com or directly from the new ticket and licence secretary Simon Freer at 5 Cedar Bank Close, Rochdale, OL16 3BZ. All cheques should be made payable to Bradford No1 AA. Cowthorpe is continuing to fish well for large chub in the cold conditions, with one angler catching 11 for a total weight of 50lb on float-fished maggot.
LISTERHILLS AA: The last match transferred to the River Aire because still water was frozen and resulted in a win for E Harrison with a barbel and grayling for 10lb 10½oz. D Armitage was second with a catch of 1lb 6oz and P Starp third with a grayling of 9¼oz. The next members’ match will be at Pilley’s Dam, weather permitting. The River Aire has received further stocking of barbel.
HEWENDEN AC: The Christmas Cheer pike match was cancelled due to the icy weather conditions. This match will now be held on Sunday, January 30. All members are welcome. It costs £10 all in on the day with a 9am draw in the car park. We would also like to thank Scott and Lee at KL Tackle in Keighley for their generous donation of prizes for this match.
BINGLEY AC: The new 2011 yearbooks will be in the shops next week. A working party will be held on Wednesday at our new River Nidd stretch at Cattal in North Yorkshire. We would welcome any members wishing to join the working party on the day. Anyone willing to help out should contact Paul Kitching on 07767-495046.
IDLE & THACKLEY AA: Result of Sunday’s match at Swainby: 1 G Huscroft 2lb 15oz, 2 M Prudhoe 2lb 5oz, 3 D Kemp 1lb 3oz. The next match is on Sunday, January 2. For bookings call 01274-615016. Pools are £15 all in.
