Right on Cue
Unbeaten Bradford No 1 chalked up another big home win to step up their challenge for the YORKSHIRE INTER-DISTRICT LEAGUE title.
They followed up a 5-1 defeat of then Division One leaders Sheffield No 2 with a 6-0 whitewash of Harrogate at Undercliffe Cricket Club.
Wayne Cooper started the rout with a solid if unspectacular 65-21 win against Harrogate captain Andy Blamire, before adding the second frame 57-19.
Lee Atkinson contested two very close frames against Callum Waite but managed to clinch both on the black 45-44 and 73-62.
Harrogate player Ricky Nelson took the early advantage against Kevin Firth but found himself helpless as the Bradford skipper made an impressive quickfire break of 88 to win 88-22.
After that the match was wrapped up in similar style, Nelson racing away before Firth’s 45 break completed a valuable victory for the home side.
Bradford remain the only unbeaten team in the division and, with a game in hand, have a great chance of pushing for the championship in the new year.
They pick up after the Christmas break with a trip to face holders Leeds on Saturday, January 8.
The draws for the BRADFORD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIPS have now been made and details will be sent out to all players by the tournament director.
Defending champion Gareth Green of Lifeline Leisure will take on Windhill Conservative Club’s Chris Metcalfe, while eight-times Bradford champion Wayne Cooper (Laisterdyke Cricket) has been drawn to play Paul Rawlings (Great Horton Conservative Club).
But perhaps the tie of the round pits two former champions against each other, with 2004 winner Howard Mawson (QTips Snooker Centre) to play 2009 winner Ilyas Khan (Lifeline Leisure).
The other ties are as follows: R Beckford (Calverley Cons) v M Sharp (Cullingworth Cons), A Tipper (Bradford Moor Cons) v C Sneddon (Windhill Cons), L Walsh (Windhill Cons) v D Wilks (QTips Snooker Centre), H Ali (Chalks Snooker Centre) v D Stirk (Undercliffe Cricket), J Murgatroyd (Chalks Snooker Centre) v M Yeadon (QTips Snooker Centre).
