A new boxing centre is alive and punching in Queensbury.
A year after opening the Legends Gym at Black Dyke Mills, owner Karen Holland this week unveiled their new larger premises complete with ring and full facilities.
Sessions will be held three times a week under the expert eye of qualified coach Robert Paradise.
Holland said: “We’ve moved from downstairs because of the demand. We’ve had so many people coming in that we needed a larger area and this is five times bigger.
“It gets a lot of kids off the street because otherwise there’s nothing in Queensbury for them to do.
“We recently had a big kick-boxing event here with more than 200 people, so it’s going really well.
“We took a bit of a gamble in moving upstairs and taking on bigger premises in the middle of a recession. But we were turning people away, which we won’t have to do now.”
Holland and her sister Dianna Bamforth created their gym with an American theme and the new area – which will be known appropriately as Queensbury Rules – has been decked out in boxing memorabilia.
