Dougie Lampkin made a winning return to his extreme enduro motor cycling career as he took top honours in the second edition of the Dirt 3-2-1 event staged at the impressive FatCat Motoparc near Doncaster.
After a hectic run of SPEA FIM World Trial Championship appearances, the 34-year-old Silsden rider dusted off his trusty Beta 450 4T, which he had last used back in June at the famous Erzberg extreme enduro event.
Despite a lack of bike time on this specialist machine, Lampkin was soon back in the groove as he eased his way around the technical and demanding enduro-cross course that makes up part of the FatCat Motoparc facility.
He was soon showing his class over the logs, rocks and tyres, although the newly-extended section of the track that included a table-top jump caused the veteran campaigner a few problems.
“Jumping is definitely not my speciality and something I have not fully mastered yet,” said Lampkin.
“I thought there was a saying – if we were meant to fly, then we would have been fitted with wings!”
The former world champion eased through qualifying for the main evening final, in which he was only briefly challenged by Johny Walker. “I have really enjoyed myself and winning has been an extra bonus,” said Lampkin.
“Normally I am always under pressure when I ride but I came here to have some fun.”
