Kyle Brassington, who reached the second round of the $10,000 event at Ilkley three weeks ago, is back in his home town.
The 23-year-old – his birthday is today – is set to be a leading light in the AEGON British Tour event.
Among those likely to be pushing Brassington for the title are Christopher Simpson (Derbyshire), Alexander Hackett (Surrey), Ryan Horgan (Bedfordshire) and the Yorkshire duo of Gavin Davison (Bingley) and Joe Gill (Sheffield).
Brassington is currently sixth in the AEGON British Tour Tier One men’s leaderboard but none of the top five are playing at Ilkley, with Simpson next best at 13th.
In the women’s singles, the stand-out performer could well be Lancashire left-hander Liz Thomas.
But former Heaton member Nicole Peterson (Huddersfield) might prove a dangerous rival and there is also a strong Warwickshire contingent headed by Manisha Foster and Lottie Fox.
Peterson is the leading woman playing at Ilkley on the British Tour leaderboard. She is 12th, with Ilkley entrants Fox and Charlotte Phillips (Nottinghamshire) among those on equal 13th.
Finals day for the tour is a week on Saturday, which will mark the third week out of four that Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club has staged a prestigious event.
Last week the club staged Group Two of Ladies’ Summer County Week, with six counties battling for the right to play in Group One at Eastbourne in 2011.
Although the $10,000 tournament three weeks ago was split away from the British Tour events, there will still be more than 500 competitors in over 30 events this coming week.
There will also be junior, veterans and handicap events taking part alongside the British Tour.
Play starts daily at 10am from tomorrow, with the men’s singles final scheduled for 1pm next Saturday followed by the women’s singles final at about 3pm.
