James Dawson showed his versatility by winning both the 50 metres breaststroke and butterfly events at the Yorkshire Sprint Meet in Sheffield.

The 14-year-old City of Bradford star had excelled over longer distances earlier in the month, winning four gold medals at the Yorkshire Age Group Championships.

He continued this rich vein of form by winning a silver medal in the backstroke and bronze in the freestyle at the most recent Ponds Forge event.

Clubmate Ellie Talbot, 12, added to her medal tally by winning the 50m backstroke and also reached the butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle finals.

Having previously claimed victory on the 200m breaststroke, ten-year-old James Lund added the 50m sprint to his collection.

Myles Stirk, also ten, claimed a podium place in the 50m freestyle when he took the silver and went on to finish fourth in the 50m backstroke.

City’s other medallists were also both in the ten-year-old age group, Isobel Mawson clinching bronze in the 50m breaststroke and Azura Cairns-Poole taking bronze in the 50m butterfly.

Other finalists were Isobel Stirk, Josh Zenner, Joshua Walker, Jessica Foulds, Chelsie Reardon and Matthew Brown.

The Championship series rounded off with the team events and once again it was the nine/ten-year-old girls who stole the limelight.

The freestyle team of Cairns-Poole, Megan Lee, Mille Foulds and Laura Hartley took silver and when Isobel Mawson swam the breaststroke leg of the medley team, they also took silver.

The 13-years freestyle team of Isobel Stirk, Nicole Fordham, Joanna Gledhill and Jessica Foulds were placed in bronze medal position in their age group freestyle team.

In total, nine of City’s teams had final placings. All swimmers train with Bradford Council’s Aquatic Coaching Scheme.
