Cross Roads duo Richard Hargreaves and Paul Haigh were crowned Wibsey CENTENARY PAIRS champions after a 21-13 win over Clayton opponents Paul Gill and Paul Kaye in the final.

The season opener had total prize money of £520 and saw Hargreaves and Haigh clinch the £200 first prize in difficult conditions on a sluggish green.

They eased past Ladyhill pairing Jimmy Hearne and Paul Owthwaite 21-7 in the quarter-finals, before edging through a tough last-four match against clubmates Mick Walsh and Scott Bairstow 21-17.

Hargreaves and Haigh were always in control in the final against the experienced pairing of Gill and Kaye, who had made steady earlier progress with a 21-8 win over Leeds duo A & K Waller and a 21-10 victory against Danny Metcalfe and Ian Shaw of Shipley Club.

Many thanks must go to Wibsey bowler Andrew Walker, who was behind the sponsorship by totesport.
