Bradford Dragons cruised past Portsmouth City Smugglers 114-86 in the EBL Division Three north versus south quarter-final play-off to set up a return match with London United-Richmond College on Saturday.

Dragons lost to London in the final of the National Shield last month.

Chairman Stuart Culliford said: “Although our defence took a bit of a holiday, we comfortably outscored Portsmouth throughout the game and gave the crowd something to cheer about.

“We are now set up for the semi-final draw we wanted. The players are still hurting from losing our first ever national final.

“They won their quarter-final against Sheffield Sabres comfortably so there is a terrific game in prospect.”

Vance Silcott top-scored against Portsmouth with 18, Luke Malek scored 17 and Daumants Pabrieza hit 15.

Saturday’s semi-final will be played at Trinity Green sports hall, Bradford College, Trinity Road, 6.15pm tip-off.

Elsewhere, Dragons under-14s beat Stockport 95-88 and 141-69 in a double-header that secured their place in the play-offs.

The under-16s lost at second-placed Middlesbrough Lions 70-56, Dragons 2 men lost 90-77 at Whitcliffe Cowboys but then finished off the season with a 60-52 win at Tadcaster Tornadoes in Leeds League Division One.

Under-15 point guard Tom North celebrated his call-up to the Wales under-16 squad – the Dragons’ first ever junior international player.
