Darren Tetley is aiming to be punch perfect in the national novice boxing finals in London on Thursday.

The 16-year-old, from the Cleckheaton Boxing Academy, faces Joe Pigford in the class B 60kg showdown.

Pigford, who boxes for the Golden Ring club in Southampton, packs plenty of experience with 18 wins from 24 bouts.

But Cleckheaton coach Keith Tate is confident that Tetley will pull through – particularly if he can replicate his semi-final performance.

Tetley, knocked out at the same stage of the competitition last year, never gave Chelmsley Wood opponent Jack Marsh a sniff on the way to a 10-0 triumph at Wakefield.

Tate said: “I’ve been really impressed with Darren. It was a good win over Marsh and he was on-song all through the bout. We’ll go down to London for the final and give it a right go.”
