The Bradford Table Tennis League Division Two title race is developing into a three-horse race, and last week Laisterdyke A saw their aspirations soar with results going their way.
Laisterdyke have been boosted this season with the signing of Mann Younis from Thornbury, who has Division One experience, and he came up trumps once again in their clash with third-placed Embassy B.
Younis dropped only one game in winning his three singles, while Faz Hussain and Peter Holbrook added one apiece. Younis and Hussain added a crucial doubles win for a 6-4 victory.
Just up the road at Hermits, leaders Unity B were going down 8-2 to Highdale C, leaving Laisterdyke just four points behind.
Embassy are also still in the hunt as they have two games on the top two.
In the Tony Theobould Trophy, Hermits D reached the semi-finals with a nail-biting success against Division Three leaders Unity D.
Hermits began with a 60-point start but Unity were inspired by Steve Worsman and they chipped away at the deficit to lead by six points with one set left.
Kath Manogue, from Hermits, faced Bill Sugden, and the Hermits heroine won the first three games 33-27 to leave the sides exactly level at 486 points each, so it was winner-takes-all in the last game.
Manogue did not falter as she won the decider 11-5 to put Hermits in the last four.
