This weekend sees a clash between the top two billiards sides in the Yorkshire Inter-District League, with Bradford No 2 taking on Leeds, both home and away.

Leeds are undoubtedly the strongest side in the competition, but Bradford will look to preserve their lead at the top of the league and aim to start the weekend with a home win against their near-neighbours on Saturday at West Bradford Bowling Club (7.30).

The two sides then lock horns once again on Sunday night in a re-arranged fixture at Leeds, with the expectancy that the outcome of these two matches could install one of the sides as clear title favourites.

Bradford No 1 aim to gain their first victory of the season, but face a tough tie when they entertain Huddersfield No 1.

In the snooker, Bradford No 1 will be looking to continue their recent fine form when the side travel to take on a strong Sheffield No 2 team on Sunday. Bradford No 2 are expected to take on Castleford No 1 at Manningham Ward on Sunday (7.30).

The Flexprint Services-sponsored Hey's Trophy quarter-finals get underway tomorrow night, where first leg ties to be played as follows: Undercliffe Cricket Club B v Harold Club A, Manningham Ward A v Laisterdyke WMC B, Laisterdyke WMC A v Little Horton Unity Club, East Ward v Eccleshill Victoria Cons A.

The first legs of the E Rosse Hopkinson Plate second round also start tomorrow night.

The ties are: Low Moor v Cuedos B, Birkenshaw Libs A v Shipley Club, Harold Club B v Undercliffe Cricket Club A, Great Horton Cons v Birkenshaw Libs B, Tong Libs B v Windhill Cons, Clayton Rugby B v Upper Bolton Cons A, Cuedos A v Wibsey Libs A, Eccleshill WMC B v Manningham Ward B.

Second legs in both the Hey's and the Hopkinson are to be played a week tomorrow.

In the Bradford Snooker Championships, Cuedos' Sajid Khan was in top form as he progressed to the quarter-finals with a convincing 4-0 victory against Laisterdyke WMC’s Dean Parker.

Chris Metcalfe, of Q Tips Shipley, also made it to the last eight with a narrow 4-3 win over Manningham Ward’s Tanveer Mohammed.

Dave Stirk and Kevin Firth of Undercliffe Cricket Club, became the latest pairing to make the quarter- finals of the Bradford Snooker Pairs Championship with a 3-0 victory against Shipley Conservative's Martin Unsworth and Andy Briggs.
