Right on Cue
Damian Wilks and clubmate Anthony Green had mixed fortunes in the ENGLISH UNDER-19 CHAMPIONSHIP qualifying tournament at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds.
Yorkshire under-19 champion Wilks made it through to the last 16, due to be played in April, but Manningham Ward colleague Green missed out on qualification.
Wilks made it through with fine victories over Elliot Slesser (4-3) and Liam Clark (4-2).
Slesser led 3-2 but Wilks drew level thanks to a break of 53, before edging through with a comfortable deciding-frame win.
Against Clark, Wilks made a 78 break in winning his first frame, logged runs of 44 and 38 to go 3-1 up and finished the match with a superb final pink and black.
He is now looking to find a sponsorship deal ahead of next season and can be contacted at the Manningham Ward club.
Meanwhile, Green won his first match 4-0 against Will Byrne but then lost 4-1 to James Debell.
England international Sanderson Lam of Leeds joined Wilks in qualifying.
A superb performance by Dave Stirk secured a quarter-final berth in the BRADFORD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The Undercliffe Cricket Club player defeated Cuedos opponent Kish Kumar 4-1, which included an excellent competition-high break of 101.
Stirk is joined in the last eight by Jason Murgatroyd (Great Horton Conservative Club), who put in a solid display to beat Mark Hirst (Manningham Ward Club) 4-0.
Bradford No 1 return to YORKSHIRE INTER-DISTRICT LEAGUE action on Sunday, hosting Castleford No 1 at Undercliffe Cricket Club (7.30pm). Bradford No 2 have a bye.
The SOUTH BRADFORD GAMES LEAGUE are seeking a new secretary for next season after Bernard Harney announced he is to retire from the role after over 25 years in charge.
Harney has served the league with great distinction, dedicating a great amount of his personal time and will be sorely missed.
The position is a rewarding one and all candidates will be considered, not just those already within the structure of the game, although this would be a big advantage. Anyone interested should contact Harney on 01274-631499.
