City of Bradford opened their 2010 long-course account with some fine performances during the prestigious Burns Meet held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
A small squad of experienced swimmers travelled to compete against the likes of Olympians Joanne Jackson, Caitlin McClatchey and Cassandra Patten.
Also involved was Joe Roebuck, who had taken part in the club’s successful recent clinic.
Commonwealth Games hopeful Sian Morgan posted some impressive times in the girls’ 14/15 years age group.
Her effort of 59.26 seconds in the 100 metres freestyle earned a bronze medal and national qualifying time, as did her fourth in the 200m individual medley and fifth places in the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
Morgan’s times of 2min 06.34sec and 4:23.57 in the 200m and 400m freestyle respectively were also British Championship qualifying times.
Breaststroke specialist David Brown claimed his first national time of 2010 in the boys’ 15/16 years 100m breaststroke with a personal best of 1:09.68, claiming a bronze medal in the process. His time of 31.44 in the 50m also clinched third place.
James Dawson’s time of 2:22.56 in the 200m individual medley was a lifetime personal best. He also finished tenth in the longer 400m event.
Also gaining valuable experience at this high-level meet was Sam O’Donohoe.
