City of Bradford’s age-group members travelled to the Sunderland Aquatic Centre to compete in the North East Region BAGCAT Championships.
Medals were hard to come by in a high-quality meet, but 13-year-old Niki Chatburn of Cononley tackled the gruelling 1,500m freestyle with determination and came out with gold in a time of 18min 51.97sec.
She also produced personal-best times in the 200m and 800m, finishing ninth in the latter event.
James Dawson claimed a silver in the 400m individual medley and bronze medals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, while placing sixth in the 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m medley.
James Lund, swimming as a ten-year-old, claimed his first NER gold medal in the 200m breaststroke in 3min 12.16sec and, buoyed by his gold medal, went on to claim bronze in the 100m breaststroke and record personal-best times in the 200m backstroke and medley.
Final-place finishes went to Ellie Talbot, Hannah Beaumont, Millie Foulds, Megan Lee, Isabel Mawson, Joshua Zenner and Joshua Walker.
Other competing swimmers were Isobel Stirk, Phoebe Acton, Azura Cairns-Poole, Joshua Holdsworth, and Matthew Brown.
