Bradford Dragons chairman Stuart Culliford has given an optimistic half-term report on their progress in English Basketball League Division Three (North).

He said after their 83-62 victory over Black Country University of Wolverhampton that put the Dragons second: “Coach (Chris) Mellor and the team have worked hard to get into a great position as we go into the Christmas break.

“But we are aware that the top of the division is very tight, with six teams all close to the top with only two wins separating them.

“Also Durham Wildcats have a game in hand so we know there is still a lot to play for.”

Culliford added: “The match at City of Sheffield Saints on January 10 will once again be a big game as they are chasing us hard.

“It was disappointing to lose last month to Mansfield Giants in the quarter-finals of the National Shield but doing well in the league will always be our priority.

“I am also pleased that Bradford College Dragons under-16s are currently second in their division and Dragons’ under-14s are in a credible fourth spot in their division.”

Dragons’ next home game is against third-placed Durham Wildcats on Saturday, January 17 at Bradford College Trinity Green Sports Hall on Trinity Road (6.15).

Admission is £3 or £1.50 for concessions.

* Bradford Maroons lost their last English Basketball League Division Three (North) match of 2008 75-70 at Sheffield Sabres.

The Maroons’ next fixture is on Sunday, January 11 when they host leaders Derby Trailblazers II at Parkside Road Sports Centre (2.30pm).
