For the second successive year, Shipley Pool was the setting for a world record in the S8 disability class at the City of Bradford Christmas Open Swim Meet.

Richard Howard (City of Salford) smashed the previous best in the open 200 metres butterfly event.

His entry time of 2min 32.37sec was last year’s record time, but this time he posted a superb 2min 19.15sec, which, subject to ratification, is a new world record.

City’s swimmers did not disappoint in their home pool and once again it was 14-year-old Sam O’Donohoe who stole the limelight.

His gold-medal swims came in the 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and breaststroke and 200m freestyle and individual medley.

His second place in the men’s knockout individual medley skinz events was also a highlight of the meet.

O’Donohoe also finished second in the 50m breaststroke and third in the 100m freestyle.

Ellie Talbot, 11, continued to show vast improvement when she placed second in the 100m freestyle and third in the 100m backstroke.

Sian Morgan was second in the 14 years and over 50m breaststroke and 200m individual medley, and also had top-six places in the 50m and 100m backstroke.

In an exciting women’s medley skinz event, Morgan finished fourth. She attended a British Swimming 2012 target squad camp on the second day of the meet and was therefore unable to compete in her favoured events.

Thirteen-year-old Lydia Biddiscombe rounded off an excellent season with bronze medals in the 50m and 100m backstroke, and Lauren Sharp, swimming as a 12-year-old, was third in the 100m butterfly and sixth in the 100m freestyle.

Luke Constantine was City’s remaining medallist, winning a bronze in the open 50m breaststroke.

He also placed fourth in the 50m butterfly and backstroke, fifth in his 100m backstroke and sixth in the 100m butterfly.

Jamie Brown, 14, showed his versatility in placing fourth in the 100m freestyle, fifth in the 100m butterfly and sixth in the 100m backstroke.

Josh Zenner, 13, was fourth in the 100m butterfly. Fifth-place finishes went to Jessica Foulds (100m freestyle), James Dawson (50m breaststroke), Ben Balmforth (50m butterfly and David Brown (50m breaststroke).
