Evergreen Keighley cyclo-cross ace Chris Young proved he is still the man to beat when he produced an easy victory in the Wakefield Triathlon Cyclo-Cross event at Thornes Park.

Veteran Young, the former British champion who just last week secured third in the National Trophy Series, crossed the line six seconds ahead of Aire Valley Racing Team rival Matt Denby, also from Keighley.

Young extended much larger gaps between him and his rivals and, apart from Denby, no one could keep up with his superb pace.

Third spot went to Crosstrax rider Neil Crampit, who was two and a half minutes off the pace.

Bradford RCC rider Phil Hinchcliffe was fourth, another ten seconds behind Cram-pit.

It proved to be a good afternoon's riding for the Young family and the JD Cycles squad, with Paul Young winning the youth event from Leeds St Christophers rider Luke Simpson. Triangle RT's Herschell Stevens - who is also from Leeds - took third.

This weekend sees Italy stage the World Cyclo-Cross Championships and the local area is represented by two competitors.

Bingley's Rob Jebb will ride the seniors race alongside Lancashire's Paul Oldham, who won the National Trophy.

And Burley-in-Wharfedale's Mark Thwaites has been selected to ride for Great Britain in the under-23s event alongside Ian Field, who won the National Trophy event staged in Bradford's Peel Park last month.
