Dougie Lampkin finished runner-up at the Sheffield Indoor Trial in his final appearance for Repsol Montesa HRC.
The Silsden rider produced an outstanding display in the Sheffield Hallam Arena in front of 8,000 fans to finish just behind world champion Antony Bou.
He matched Bou through the first lap of six sections, completing a clean ride, leaving Takahisa Fujinami to fend off Cookridge's James Dabill and Michael Brown. Only five riders went forward to the second lap where Bou raised the stakes with a single-mark ride after Lampkin took a couple of failures in his stride. Fujinami pipped Dabill and Brown for third place.
Lampkin, 31, said: "I am glad that I have been able to close my time Montesa with a good result as after eight good years and four world championships, it would have been sad to finish on a low note."
Result: 1 Antony Bou (Repsol Montesa) 3, 2 Dougie Lampkin (Repsol Montesa) 12, 3 Takahisa Fujinami (Repsol Montesa) 27, 4 James Dabill (Future Montesa) 34, 5 Michael Brown (Repsol Beta) 43.
