A decade ago, The Stoop Fell Race - a popular run to the old standing-stone marking the Haworth Parish boundary - attracted around 200 runners but Sunday's event drew a record field of 321, with a further 112 in the junior race.

Ian Holmes (Bingley Harriers AC), the greatest fell runner of the past decade, had won the race for ten consecutive years but age finally caught up with him on Sunday and he had to settle for third place.

Runner-up was Rob Hope (Pudsey & Bramley), who finished in 30min 12sec, just behind Andi Jones (Salford). First lady was Natalie White (Bingley), 28th overall in 37min 6sec.

For Guiseley-based Skyrac, Bob Pritchard and Graham Breeze had finished five seconds apart in the 2005 race and on Sunday the gap had stretched to 16 seconds with them finishing in 91st (41min 36sec) and 95th respectively. Breeze retained first M60 status overall. Malcolm Coles was 191st in 48.12.

Pudsey Pacers' Chris Sallabank was the only Pacer to brave the icy conditions but was well placed in the M50 category and comfortably in the top half of the field.

  • Training for Pudsey Pacers resumes in the New Year with sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm from the well-appointed Pudsey Leisure Centre, with all abilities catered for. Newcomers are assured a warm welcome.
