Bradford Veterans' top two teams enjoyed a productive day in the second round of Yorkshire League fixtures at Halifax.

The first team are defending champions but one dropped point in the first weekend left them in third place behind Harrogate and Dewsbury I.

They struggled to beat Hull II in their opening fixture at Halifax but then recorded 8-2 wins over Doncaster and Dewsbury I.

This lifted them to second place just behind leaders Harrogate, who they play in the final round of fixtures in March.

Bradford's second team had a difficult opening programme and were one of three teams without a point going to Halifax.

But Mark Rycroft won eight out of nine singles to help his side to five points with wins over Dewsbury II and Hull II and a draw against Doncaster as they moved up to mid-table security.

Meanwhile, Embassy A ended a run of ten straight Bradford League defeats in Division One at Highdale A and were almost celebrating their first win.

Tony Boyd spearheaded the visitors' challenge from 3-1 down to lead 5-3 but they had to settle for a 5-5 draw after losing the doubles 11-7 in a deciding game.
