Although the time has yet to be officially ratified, amputee Richard Howard has set what is believed to be the first ever world record in a Bradford pool.

The City of Salford member set the record at City of Bradford's 25th anniversary Christmas Open Meet at Shipley Pool, which was run in conjunction with Bradford Council's Sport and Leisure Service.

Howard took over four seconds off the S8 Classification 200 metres butterfly, clocking 2min 32.16sec compared to the old world record mark of 2min 36.57sec.

The 19-year-old also broke a British record in the Open 100m backstroke with his time of 1min 16.77sec, the previous national mark being 1min 18.11sec.

In local terms, however, City's Sian Morgan took the limelight with eight gold medals. They came in the girls' 13 years 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 100m backstroke and butterfly.

Sian also took first places in the junior girls' individual medley and freestyle via the skinz events (slowest drops out).

Clubmate Isaac Ehdieb, 13, swam to victories in the 100m breaststroke and also claimed silvers in the 100m freestyle and backstroke.

Ben Balmforth was rewarded for his recovery from injury and perseverance with gold in the boys' 14 years 50m breaststroke, silver in the 50m butterfly and bronzes in the 100m butterfly and junior freestyle skinz.

Ten-year-old Niki Chatburn took the 100m breaststroke while older sister Jenna broke a long-standing club record with silver in the open 50m breaststroke.

Sam O'Donohoe, 13, won the 100m backstroke, took silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m butterfly.
