Baildon C were firm favourites for the Bradford Table Tennis League Division Six title and they are justifying their tag with eight straight victories.

Their nearest challengers Hermits J never recovered from losing the first three sets but John Denton and Peter Holroyd combined to take four of the remaining seven.

Richard Stanley maintained his unbeaten record for Baildon with three wins in straight games. David Bywater took two and John Jennison won one as Baildon - who were relegated last season - stretched their lead at the top to 17 points.

In Division Five, Drummonds started the season as title contenders having finished third last season but it is much closer at the top in this section.

Stewart Varley led the way for Drummonds against Fastbats G with three singles wins. Malcolm Fowler added two and Geoff Coupe took one as Drummonds led Hermits G by just one set at the top.

There was an amazing marathon set in the Division One encounter between Dewsbury Sedbergh and Highdale B.

The teams were level at 4-4, with Mark Land having won his opening two sets for the hosts while Steven Denny did likewise for Highdale.

They clashed in the last singles game, Land taking the first two games 14-12, 11-9 before Denny hit back to take the last three 11-3, 20-18, 13-11 and then added the doubles with Graham Manicom for a 6-4 victory.
