The North of England Cyclo-Cross Championships in Manchester were dominated by riders from the Bradford area, with three of the six categories being won by local riders.

Veteran Chris Young, the former British champion, proved he is the man to beat with victory in the veterans' category.

The Keighley-based rider pipped Northallerton's Noel Clough to the top spot.

Leading youth rider was Keighley's Tom Moses of the SSC Cyclesport team, who took top spot ahead of Young's son Paul, who rides for Ilkley-based JD Cycles like his father. The under-12s race was won convincingly by East Bradford CC's Billy Harding.

The seniors was dominated by riders from the other side of the Pennines, with Lancashire's Paul Oldham (Hope Factory Racing) winning from Cumbrian Rob Jebb, who has won the Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross at Helwith Bridge for the last six times.

  • This weekend, cyclo-cross returns to Peel Park in Bradford, with the fourth round of the National Trophy series being staged on Sunday.

Most of the top riders from across Britain - and some of the leading riders from Europe - are expected to be in action. With the race for the series win looking tight, the event could prove all important.
