Eccleshill's Paul Hillam capped a fantastic week by winning the Bradford Pairs Merit at Horton Park with James Davison.

After a superb day's bowling, the duo beat Pudsey's John Armitage and Stuart Watson 21-8 in the final to win the Martin S Lonsdale (Estate Agents)-sponsored event. The winners had their toughest challenge in the last 16 as they beat Spen Victoria's John Armitage and Ian Wilson 21-18.

Hillam had already displayed good form in the build-up to the tournament, winning £200 by reaching the quarter-finals of the Hillcrest Classic. He also reached the semi-finals of an event at Strawberry Gardens, Fleetwood before winning the Fleetwood Festival the day after.

Hillam beat Kendal's Martin Gilpin 21-16 in the final to win the £1,000 first prize, backing himself at odds of 40-1.

  • Clayton suffered their first home defeat of the season as they went down 18-12 to Eccleshill A in the Naylor Premier League. Eccleshill carded six away winners as they moved above their opponents into second place.

Pudsey Littlemoor A had a full board as they destroyed struggling Pudsey Britannia A 30-0, with Steven Gilroy (21-7) leading the way.

Mike Mitchell (21-8) and Ryan Benson (21-8) helped Rufford A to an 18-12 home win over Spen Victoria A in the Godwin League, despite a great 21-9 success for Spen's Chris Wilson. Guiseley A moved into mid-table with a thumping 29-1 win over Brighouse Sports B as Billy Cater (21-4), Jeff Bolton (21-7), Tom Cater (21-8) and Colin Matthewman (21-9) found top form.

Walter Barker (21-7) helped Bramley Libs to a 16-14 win at Peel A in the Observer League to keep them hot on the heels of Crowghyll A and Queensbury A at the top. Crowghyll gained the advantage with a 21-9 win over Queensbury, as Tony Walton (21-2) gained their most emphatic win.

Tyersal A continue to slide down the league, losing 22-8 at Drighlington A, for whom Carold Sharp (21-3) and Brian Tillotson (21-8) produced the goods.

Bartle League leaders Greengates continued their momentum with a 21-9 win at Oakenshaw A thanks to a great 21-5 victory from Steve Bastow. Judy Cockroft 21-6 was the pick of seven away winners as West were 20-10 winners at Bowling A.

Alan Naylor and Barry Durrans both carded 21-8 victories as Bradford Moor A held the upper hand against Spen Ex-Service 24-6 in the Haigh League.

Norman Appleton produced a great 21-6 victory for Horton A but Salts had the last laugh with a 19-11 home win. Leaders Asa Briggs B were 18-12 winners at Harold Park, thanks to 21-7 wins from Kath Sansom and Steve McGrevy.

Riley League leaders Brackenhill A would have been disappointed with a 16-14 home win over Shelf A, with Roger Bernard 21-5 and Tony Cockcroft 21-8 starring. Robert Annetts (21-4) and Mick Pullein (21-4) helped Crowghyll B to a 24-6 away triumph at Bailiff Bridge in the Field Packaging League. Seven away winners helped leaders Asa Briggs C to a 20-10 win at Tyersal B.

Kim Ramsden (21-2), Mark Woolner (21-5) and Pat Lonsdale (21-5) were on fire for runaway Mellor League leaders Ladyhill B in their 25-5 home win over Bradford Moor B.

  • Andy Mailer (Meersbrook) and Peter Jagger (Spen Victoria) were the first qualifiers in the db Commercial Finance Pudsey Classic. Mailer beat Matt Gillies (Bolton) 21-18 to qualify, while Jagger beat Paul Heap (Oldham) 21-17 to make the finals.
  • Tommy Johnstone (Warrington) and Graham Roberts (Brighouse) were this week's qualifiers in the Re-New Windows Classic at Spen Victoria. Roberts was in terrific form throughout as he eased through to the finals.
  • Andy Cairns (Rossendale) and Robert Thompson have qualified in the Brig-house Classic. Cairns beat Danny Sillitoe (Doncaster) 21-12, while Thompson defeated Darren Stevenson (Doncaster) 21-17 to make the finals.
  • Yorkshire play Cheshire in the Endsleigh ABA county championship semi-final on Sunday, with the home match being at Pudsey Littlemoor (2pm). The away leg is at Sale Excelsior.
