Bradford-Airedale have been forced to move the penultimate round of the North of England Track & Field league meeting, for which they are host club, to Hyndburn.

The poor condition of the Horsfall track at Odsal means it is unlicensed for meetings, while the track at Cleckheaton became unavailable this weekend. This will handicap their efforts to climb the league.

They are currently in fifth - behind Chorley - in their West-Central division. Bury, Halifax and Hyndburn are clear leaders.

Bradford-Airedale have had impressive performances this year from Rizwan Barney' Khan, who did a season's best 100m of 11.9 secs at the last meeting, and captain Chris Hainsworth, who won the hammer with 24.96m and has had second places in the shot and discus.

In other West-Central divisions of the league, Bingley Harriers are lying fifth, behind Blackburn, after a much improved team score in the match they hosted at Cleckheaton. However, their improvement will need to continue to avoid relegation.

In the recent North of England individual track and field championships at Wavertree (Liverpool), there were podium performances from Bingley athletes Joanne Oates, winner of the long jump (5.25m), Amy Howard, second in the hammer (48.59m), and from Spenborough's Joshua Cayenne in the under-20 200m (second in 21.95 secs).

  • More runners than ever are expected to take up this year's Pudsey 10k Challenge and Fun Runs on Sunday, July 22.

Capacity on the hilly 10k race has been increased to 450, while the family fun run, which last year saw more than 140 complete the two-mile route, is looking to welcome an additional 60 runners.

The tough, scenic 10k course, sponsored by RWR Digital Printing Ltd, takes in Black Carr Woods and involves a total climb of 726 feet - around twice the height of the recently constructed skyscraper, Bridgewater Place, in Leeds.

It is organised by Pudsey Pacers, and will again help to raise funds for the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford. Last year more than 1,000 was raised for the charity.

Prior to the start of the 10k at 10.45am, there will be two runs: a 400 metres race inside Pudsey Park for under 8s at 9.30am and a two-mile family fun run, which starts at 10am. Medals and goody bags are awarded to all finishers.
