A BRADFORD kickboxing club came back with an impressive medal haul in the WKKC World Championships in Dublin.
Mohammed Shaban, Kevin Giscombe, David Blair, Harris Qurban, Robbie Kennedy and Kamran Hussain qualified for the tournament after an impressive performance at a WKKC competition at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre.
Between them, the fighters, who train at Physical Impact Kickboxing, won 13 medals, including nine gold, two silver and two bronze.
A total of 12 countries participated at the event, including America, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Puerto Rico.
Shaban became a triple world champion, winning in the points and continuous disciplines and also in the Team England fight 85kg category.
Giscombe, already a world champion at light heavyweight level, brought home gold in the Team England fight and silver in the continuous +85kg.
Heavyweight world champion Blair also won gold in the Team England fight, along with silver in the continuous and bronze in points +90kg.
Qurban bagged gold in the points and Team England fight, along with bronze in the continuous.
Kennedy became world champion in two categories also, winning gold in the continuous and the Team England fight.
Shaban said: “The championships were very proud moments for the fighters and the club.
“Five of the six were selected to fight on the team events for England, due to their superb performances in the first few days of their individual events.
“Unfortunately, one of our fighters, Kamran, did not win any medals but his category was one of the toughest, with the highest number of competitors competing in that particular section.
“The fighters he competed against possessed quality skills and he did our club proud. It was a rewarding experience for him and he is aware of the further training that is required to achieve his goal of becoming world champion.”
