Dougie Lampkin battled through the pain barrier to claim sixth and seventh places in round four of the FIM World Trials Championship after an incident packed event in Japan.
The Silsden rider damaged a rear wheel on his Repsol Montesa HRC bike on day one and the subsequent repairs incurred seven time penalties.
Up to that point he had ridden the first 11 sections for a mere seven penalties and, in trying to make up for the time loss, Lampkin rushed the last three sections.
On the final section, a testing waterfall climb, he fell back and dislocated his right index finger, used to operate the front brake.
After medical attention Lampkin managed to cover the next full lap for a loss of 33 marks and claimed sixth position.
Lampkin bravely returned to action the following day but was restricted by his injury and finished a place worse off, leaving him fourth in the overall standings.
Meanwhile, European champion James Dabill was performing well against the top contenders but his second lap contrasted sharply with his first.
The Cookridge rider explained: "I did everything right on the first lap and everything wrong on the second.
"It has been hard work but it is only my second year in world events and I have beaten some top names on the championship scene."
Dabill finished seventh on day one and followed that up with eighth.
