Wayne Cooper completed a quickfire double over Simon Bedford by adding the Yorkshire Championship title to his record-equalling Bradford Championship success of the previous week.

The final never really lived up to its pre-game billing as one of the matches of the season, with the majority of frames becoming scrappy due to prolonged safety play.

This, coupled with the humid conditions and mounting tension at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, ensured the players were never really able to settle and get any fluency.

Bedford took the early advantage, with Cooper twice having to peg back his Bradford team-mate and close friend during the first four frames to reach the interval level at 2-2.

But Cooper then found a little form and picked off the necessary points to take the last two frames and win 4-2, adding a second Yorkshire title to his 2004 victory.

Former world champion Joe Johnson, whose Bradford singles record Cooper equalled, was the Yorkshire Association's guest of honour and presented the trophy.

Cooper dedicated the win to his late father Harry, who passed away exactly eight years previously.

Both players will admit they were not at their best in this final but their performances should not detract from their achievements over the season.

Bedford has won the Yorkshire Handicap trophy, the Bradford Pairs trophy (with Chris Brannan) and the Yorkshire Pairs trophy with Cooper, who himself has collected the Yorkshire Championship and Bradford Championship trophies.

Add to this Cooper's victory over Stephen Hendry in the T&A Classic and it can be said the season has been fantastic for the duo.

The city can be rightly proud of their achievements, with both looking forward to next season and the possibility of rejoining the pro tour.
