Keighley's Tom Barras was beaten into second spot in a sprint finish to the Stan Robson Trophy in North Yorkshire on Sunday.
Riding for the Merlin Racing Team, Barras was part of an original break of seven riders which went clear on the first of four laps of a ten-mile circuit, which preceded a smaller circuit they covered eight times.
Although the break stayed clear of the bunch, Chris Newton, the leader of the Recycling.co.uk team, managed to bridge the gap and strengthen the leading group as they headed on to the second of the larger circuits.
They established a lead of more than six minutes on the bunch, and as they headed for the line the group split, with Barras, his team-mate Liam Holohan, Newton and Matt Kipling (Inkland CRT) contesting the sprint. At the line it was the experienced Newton who took the win, while Barras held off Kipling for second spot while Holohan took fourth.
Meanwhile, Otley's Lizzie Armitstead travels to the Netherlands this week to compete in the Omloop Borsele, a prestigious international race, which is a 120-kilometre UCI-ranked event.
She will be riding alongside colleagues from the Global Racing Team and will be aiming to continue the form she showed in winning the Cheshire Women's Two-Day event last weekend.
In that event she won the opening time trial by three seconds and was also the winner by four seconds in the second 80km stage to secure the overall victory.
