YORKSHIRE followed up their narrow victory over The Potteries at the beginning of last month with a more convincing 484-352 success over Merseyside in the British Crown Green County Championship.

In the home match at Rastrick, Yorkshire carded 11 winners, with John Spinks (Pudsey) the pick with a 21-4, helping Yorkshire win the home aggregate by 98 chalks.

In the away match at Royden Hall, Yorkshire took the aggregate by 34 chalks, with Mick Smith rolling back the years with a great 21-9 success.

Next up for Yorkshire is a mouth-watering clash against Warwick & Worcester on Sunday, July 5.

Yorkshire Ladies suffered a 416-406 defeat against Wales in their latest County Championship match, with the fixture at Almondbury BC costing Yorkshire as they only won the home aggregate by four chalks, despite carding eight winners.

Lynda Drury (21-5) and Linda Gledhill (21-8) were the pick of them, while in the away match at a difficult Broughton & Bretton green, Yorkshire notched six winners, losing the aggregate there by 14 chalks.

Carole Harpin (21-11) and Debbie Davis (21-12) were the pick of the away winners but all is not lost for Yorkshire with one game to play if other results go their way.

Last Saturday saw the last 32 of the Yorkshire Cup, Henry Taylor Cup, Eric Hutchinson Memorial Trophy and Derek Radley Trophy.

Wyke produced a great result in defeating Mirfield Old Bank by a single chalk in the Yorkshire Cup, and will now face Chapel Street in the last 16, while Pudsey and Guiseley both made it through and will now play each other.

Cleckheaton Sports travelled to Crowghyll to play Newsome Comm BC in the Radley Trophy and, despite a great 21-10 from Janice Walton, it was the Huddersfield team who progressed with a 230-211 success.
