IAN Hutchinson may have more than one nickname after making it back-to-back victories in the Isle of Man TT.
The Bingley Bullet followed his Superstock victory on Monday night with a second success win today in the RL 360 Superstock race.
Some spectators are calling Hutchinson the Six Million Dollar Man after the two straight victories came following more than 30 operations on a leg following a serious accident at Silverstone in 2010. Hutchinson had just won five TT races in a week when he came a cropper in the British Superbike Championship five years ago.
In today's triumph he won by over 17 seconds from Michael Dunlop, setting a new race record of 130.924mph.
It was the tenth overall TT win for Hutchinson, but he almost ran out of fuel before the pit stop at the end of lap two as the bike began to cut out.
“I never eased it off, I ran out of petrol on lap two,” revealed the 35-year-old. “Guy (Martin) got back past me and I just wanted to get back to the pit stop.”
Hutchinson also admitted that the decision to change his rear tyre at the stop – Dunlop choosing to stick with the same rubber for all four laps – proved crucial in seeing him pull away on the final lap.
