Latest news from the local angling scene.

BRADFORD CITY AA

The second week of ‘Duffers' Fortnight’ – the main annual Mayfly hatch – has been disrupted by the cold and high winds, with many fly anglers being blown off the river. However, prospects for the weekend are good and there are early signs of the fishing improving, with Kevan Judge reporting a good day this week.

Fishing has been light at Shipton Lake this week, because the fish have been spawning and anglers have been leaving them alone. At Staveley Lakes, Mac Regan was particularly pleased with a common carp of 15lb 9oz, and a mirror weighing 17lb 14oz in the same session, both taken on a Techno cell halo bait pop-up on a chod rig.

Other anglers at the lakes have reported good catches of perch, roach, bream, tench and carp, with maggot and 6mm pellet proving successful as the water warmed up.

The next club match is the Veterans' (over-60) Morphet Cup at Staveley Lakes tomorrow. For last-minute bookings and more information, contact Rod Brooksbank on 07875-275749. Members are asked to help on the club’s stand at the Fly Fishing Show on Burnsall Green on Sunday.
