SUNDAY will be a very special day for Ashley 'Shirley' Daykin, who reaches a century of Yorkshire appearances when they face The Potteries in their opening match of the Crossfield Cup – the British Crown Green County Championship.

The home match will be played on Huddersfield stalwart Daykin's home green of Meltham, where he once played an exhibition match against the legendary Brian Duncan. The away match is at Florence T&BC.

The home team will be again managed by Graham Hickey, who will be assisted by Steve Pinfield, with Graeme Wilson as captain.

Several local bowlers have been included, such as Wayne Mosley (Lockwood Cons), Craig Gant (Netherton Cons), Michael Martin (Canalside) and Daykin (Netherton Cons), while Jack Dyson is in the away squad.

The away squad is managed by Duncan Reeves and, with James Davidson of Thongsbridge captaining the side, they have also selected Nicky White (Thongsbridge) and Dyson (Netherton Cons).

Anybody travelling to Meltham is advised to come through Crosland Moor as the Tour of Yorkshire is also in the area that day.

Entry to the match is £2 and practice starts at 1pm for the home side and 1.20pm for the visitors.
