REIGNING Naylor Premier champions Crossgates have suffered their second successive defeat of the Bradford Saturday League season – and their first at home in three years.
They went down 16-14 to Shipley Club A, who edged the aggregate by three chalks thanks to a great 21-9 effort by Kieran Bannister.
Shipley are the only team with a 100 per cent win record after two games and find themselves joint-top with Pudsey A, who demolished Cranmore 27-3.
Pudsey carded an impressive nine home winners, with Andy Hodgson's 21-6 being the pick of them. Matthew Turner's 21-8 was the only winning card for Cranmore.
Paul Gill's 21-7 success for Clayton A helped them to a 20-10 defeat of Eccleshill A, despite a great 21-7 from John Benson for the visitors.
Ladyhill A carded an impressive 20-10 home win over Brighouse Sports A, which could have been ever better after two 21-20 losses. Neil Simpson (21-6) and Richard Bloodworth (21-9) did the damage for Ladyhill.
Littlemoor A, always tough to beat at home, notched a first victory on their return to the top flight with a 19-11 success over Whitkirk, helped by a superb 21-7 from Glen Smith.
Wyke A have started the season well in the Godwin section and followed up a victory at Guiseley A with a 29-1 demolition of Littlemoor B, with Nigel Swales 21-3 the best of nine home winners.
Elland CA&BC look like they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season as they also made it two wins from two with a 23-7 home score over Greengates A, Stuart Carroll leading them to victory with a 21-9.
Stuart King's 21-10 helped Asa Briggs A to a 21-9 home verdict over Pudsey B to keep up their 100 per cent record, while Eccleshill B and Brighouse Sports B scored narrow home wins over Rufford A and Guiseley A respectively.
Rachel Telford (21-6) and Ian Matthews (21-8) helped Eccleshill to a 17-13 triumph, while six home successes for Brighouse helped them to an 18-12 win – despite stunning away performances from Joe Stockdale (21-5) and Gary Whelan (21-6).
Cononley made it three wins from three in the Observer competition as they defeated Drighlington A 19-11, with Steve Wood's 21-5 helping them to a second away victory of the season.
Horsforth Woodside are always tough to beat at home and Hollies S&SC never came close as they went down 21-9, with Simon Chaffer's 21-9 the best of seven home winners for Horsforth.
Karen Whitefoot's 21-7 and Roy Carter's 21-8 were in vain for Hightown as they suffered a 19-11 defeat at Hove Edge A, with Kenny Barker's 21-4 ensuring a home success.
Clayton B carded an 18-12 win at Wibsey A, who continue to struggle, Chris Wilson doing the damage for the visitors with a 21-8.
Peel A got the better of Wyke B, edging it 18-12, with Nichola Stocks' 21-8 for Peel being cancelled out by Gerry Hird's 21-6.
