Angling Lines

Fishing rights on the River Ure at Langthorpe (left bank) have been relinquished by the club due to very poor access and the stretch not being fished by members.

We still hold fishing rights to the opposite bank, known as the Roecliffe stretch, which reported good catches of roach, dace and perch over the winter.

The stretch of Aire and Calder Canal at Whitley Lock has also been released due to being under-fished, although we still hold fishing rights to more than 11 miles of this canal between Heck and Goole.

Knotford and Kirklees Lagoon are both producing a number of carp over 20lb now that the water temperature is rising.

Only a couple of night permits remain available for these waters, so members are advised to purchase as soon as possible – either online or from the ticket and licence secretary.

Raskelf is continuing to fish exceptionally well for F1s, tench, skimmers and ide, with nets in excess of 50lb being caught regularly, while Queen Mary’s Ponds at Ripon are also beginning to fish well with a number of tench over 6lb being caught over the past week. Members are reminded to ensure that all gates are closed on club waters.

WASHBURN VALLEY FISHERY

Catch details for week ending April 5 – Day ticket: Fewston 22, Swinsty 1, Thruscross 0. Total fish caught: Fewston 123, Swinsty 3, Thruscross 0. Average per rod: Fewston 5.6, Swinsty 0, Thruscross 0. The heaviest fish caught was a 4lb 7oz rainbow trout by Kevin Wren using white tadpole. Fewston: Trout feeding sub-surface, approximately six to eight foot down taking nymph and lure. Swinsty: Plenty of fish moving, mainly coarse in deep water. Thruscross: Brown trout feeding through the day, with lots of activity early evening.

Result of last Sunday's match at Pilley's for the Mottram Trophy: 1 W Barker 4lb 5oz (including a tench), 2 E Harrison 3lb 10oz (roach), 3 D Jackson 2lb 7oz (roach and perch). The first treatment of DyoFix to cut down weed growth at Pilley's has been applied. Signs of fish shoaling up prior to spawning have been observed on calm days at Pilley's. Trout are being caught on the River Aire but so far reports are only of moderate-sized fish.SKIPTON AA

Coarse fish are coming to the net at Whinnygill Reervoir, and have included a roach to around 900g (2:0:0), plus a few of the recently-introduced fish. A surprise catch was that of a chub by Simon Chenior, who tempted the fish with maggot while fishing deep on a slider-float set-up. The fish is now the official record chub for the reservoir, having weighed in at 850g (1:14:0). The Skipton AA record chub is a River Aire fish of 2700g (5:15:4) caught in 2000 by Geoff Heath from the middle length above the stone bridge during an open match.

LEEDS ASA

With the recent addition of Moor Monkton Ponds, previously known as Carpvale, this venue has been added to the society-owned still waters, which are receiving a substantial amount of expenditure to improve security access and other facilities. These waters include Knotford – a venue for specialist anglers – Sandwath and the Polo Pond at Kippax for the general pleasure angler, and Moor Monkton, which caters for the match and pleasure angler. Sunday's match is on small lake at Moorfields, Goole DN14 8BQ, draw 8.45am, fishing 10am-4pm. Minimum of two keep-nets required, fishery feed pellets only. No tin cans to be taken to lake. No cat meat, ground bait or floating baits allowed. On-site cafe open from 7.30am. All Clayton matches this year are £20.
