HOLLIES Sports & Social Club started the Saturday season with a 23-7 home triumph over Wyke B in the Observer League, thanks to wins from Len Robinson 21-6 and Mark McCann 21-8, who were among their eight winners.

Cononley began life in the Bradford League with an impressive 22-8 win at Wibsey A, with David Hoskin 21-2, Graham Raey 21-4 and Tony Finn 21-9 doing the damage against depleted Wibsey.

Hove Edge A would have been pleased with an opening-day 22-8 home win against Ladyhill B, with captain Stephen Rothwell the pick of eight victors in a 21-10 success as debutant Alan Hughes showed some resistance for Ladyhill after a stylish 21-11 win.

Keith Goodall's 21-7 home win for Peel A was in vain, however, as Roy Carter 21-6 and Julie Best 21-9 replied for Hightown, who edged it 17-13.

After promotion last season, Armley Cons produced the result of the weekend – a stunning 29-1 win at Queensbury A in the Bartle League, despite a great 21-8 from the evergreen Dennis Robinson.

Armley produced six single figure cards – Nigel Partington 21-0, Thomas Parr 21-1, Kevin Gilroy 21-1, John Gilroy 21-4, David Birks 21-5 and Steve Pickersgill 21-7, and will surely be favourites for a third successive promotion.

South Leeds Cons were another team carding an impressive away win, with a 22-8 against Harold Park, thanks to Tim Newton 21-2 and Keith Broughton 21-3. Andrew Walker's 21-7 was one of only three victories for the hosts.

Rufford B and Crowghyll A edged close games against Hipperholme & Lightcliffe A and Asa Briggs B respectively.

Four fixtures in the Haigh League featured convincing home wins, with Eccleshill C's 29-1 demolition of Peel B being the best of them.

Ken Wilson 21-5, Jim Head 21-6, Donald Firth 21-7, Keith Cooksey 21-7, Graham Foster 21-9 and Peter Howroyd 21-9 did the damage for Eccleshill.

Tyersal A, thanks to eight home winners carded a 26-4 win against Wibsey B, with Pam Lindley's 21-3 the pick of them.

Ralph Sissons 21-8, David Norris 21-9 and Jack Wiffen 21-9 helped Guiseley B to a 25-5 home win over Oakenshaw A, while Stanningley A defeated Birkenshaw 23-7, thanks to wins from Keith Worrall 21-1, Mabel Shaw 21-8 and Jack Roberts 21-9. Paul Kitson showed some resistance for Birkenshaw with a 21-8.

After relegation last season, Cleckheaton Moorend and Brackenhill will be looking for promotion from the Riley League, and both teams started with impressive home victories.

Cleckheaton Moorend beat Bowling A 22-8, thanks to wins from David Batten 21-4, Joe Keenan 21-6 and David Lloyd 21-9, while Andrew Mackrill 21-7 helped Brackenhill to a 20-10 success over Hove Edge B, despite a great 21-5 from Malcolm Blackburn.

New team Hove Edge C defeated Salts 23-7, who had Robert Haydock 21-5, Anthony James 21-6 and Louis Barker 21-7 on top form.

Stuart Briggs 21-5 helped Bailiff Bridge A to an impressive 23-7 win at West Royd, who could only manage two home victories.

Greengates B edged home 16-14 against Bradford Moor A in a low-scoring game, with Alan Farrow's 21-8 win for the visitors cancelling out Joan Brown's 21-9 for the hosts.

Rufford C carded a 22-8 home triumph over Queensbury B, with Jim Dobson 21-5, Eileen Beck 21-7 and Christine Dobson 21-9 being the best of seven home winners.
