BRADFORD'S billiards team needed just one point from their final match at home to Harrogate to secure a second place finish in the Yorkshire Inter-District League and Paul Devitt ensured there would be no late drama by taking the first game against Tom Halliday.
Devitt topped and tailed a 200-109 victory with breaks of 40 and 31.
Steve Wilman trailed Harrogate captain Tim Godolphin by nearly 50 points in the early stages but, having pulled back most of the deficit, Wilman took the lead for the first time with a break of 35 and then powered on to a 200-97 victory.
Bradford captain Stephen Kershaw traded 30 breaks with Stephen Crosland to keep the scores close at the halfway stage, but two further runs around the 30-mark from Crosland in the second half went unanswered as he took Harrogate's only points of the night with a 200-131 win.
However, Bradford won the match 5-2 and thus ended the season in a very respectable second place behind runaway leaders Leeds.
Kevin Firth joins Wayne Cooper and Howard Mawson in the semi-finals of the Bradford Snooker Championships after a 4-0 victory against 1996 champion Sajid Khan. Firth made breaks of 66, 54 and two 48s during an impressive performance.
