BRADFORD'S Platinum amateur club had double the reason to celebrate from the national junior cadet championship finals in Sheffield.
They returned from Ponds Forge with two title winners – Jake Leeming, who triumphed in the 52kg division, and Chris Windle at 38kg.
Leeming boxed superbly in his final to take a unanimous verdict against opponent Jamel Khan (The Ring), who is a European bronze medallist.
Khan was hot favourite for the contest on the back of an amateur record of 35 wins from 37 bouts. But 14-year-old Leeming rallied behind the tag of underdog and was always on top of the counter-puncher.
Leeming had already had to qualify the hard way with a pulsating toe-to-toe battle with national schoolboy champion Joe Tyres, winning their quarter-final on a split decision.
Windle, who won the schoolboy title last year, needed a similarly tight verdict to beat John Lee of Repton in his final.
The 15-year-old had only had to box once to get there as his scheduled opponents in the regionalised section all pulled out. When he did finally step in the ring, one body shot ended it inside 30 seconds.
But the final lived up to the occasion, with Windle edging the second and third rounds to take the plaudits.
Coach David Nelson reckons the Idle-based club is becoming a hotbed for promising young talent.
He said: "We've only been going for six years and I think we have nine national champions. The other lads are learning off these kids and I can see a lot more success to come."
